Buckingham Palace has said that Zara Phillips, the 29-year-old daughter of Princess Anne and her former husband Captain Mark Phillips, is to marry her long-term partner, the England rugby union international Mike Tindall. No further details have so far been announced.
Phillips, who is 12th in line to the throne, is the Queen's oldest granddaughter.
The palace announcement comes five weeks after the announcement of Prince William's engagement to Kate Middleton. They are to be married at Westminster Abbey on 29 April next year.
Zara Phillips is best known as an equestrian rider and is a former eventing world champion. She is a trained equine physiotherapist and was the BBC sports personality of the year in 2006, but missed both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games after her horse, Toytown, developed an injury on each occasion. Her mother, the Princess Royal, was sports personality of the year in 1971 for her own riding achievements.
Phillips and Tindall, 32, have been partners for seven years and live together in a house on her mother's Gloucestershire estate. Yorkshire-born Tindall, known as Fridge, plays outside centre for Gloucester and has 62 caps for England.
He told Hello magazine last year: "I don't think it's about whether we will get married but when. There's no doubt I love Zara but it has to be the right time and, yes, it will probably be a white wedding, although sometimes I can see the attraction of sneaking away without telling anyone."

Warne scandal: Liz Hurely begs husband Arun Nayer for second chance

Courtsey news via news.com.au December 21, 2010 12:00AM

FRESH from spurning Shane Warne over his sex texting, Liz Hurley is reportedly begging her estranged husband Arun Nayer to take her back.
A source told British newspaper The Sun: "Liz knows she's been a fool and has phoned Arun to say sorry and beg forgiveness."

The news is the latest plot twist since Hurley and former cricketing great Warne were caught in a passionate embrace at a London hotel earlier this month.
In the days following the shock reports of the unlikely couple’s relationship, Hurley issued a statement saying that she and her husband of two years had split “months before” the incriminating shots surfaced.
Then Warne announced that he and wife Simone, the mother of his three children, had split and reportedly told friends he wanted to marry the British model.
Nayer reportedly tried to warn Hurley about Warne's reputation as a philanderer In the days that followed the shock news.
His warnings were well grounded: soon after claims surfaced in the British press that Warne had bombarded Melbourne mother Adele Angeleri with more than 100 raunchy text messages.
Hurley broke things off with Warne in light of the revelations, leaving him broken-hearted.
In a bid to win her back, he took to Twitter, writing: "If you are lucky to find happiness, cherish it and fight for it."
According to The Sun, Hurley's own attempts at reconciliation have fallen on deaf ears, with Nayer "still going for quickie divorce".
Last night Warne’s close friend, famed talk show host Michael Parkinson, publicly urged him to see help.
“When you see a friend who does something which causes you unhappiness you want to help, and I just feel he needs help," Parkinson told A Current Affair.
"What I can't understand about Shane is he is an intelligent man . . . so therefore there has to be a reason. Is it compulsion, like gambling?
Meanwhile, Warne's ex-wife Simone Callahan has hit back at claims in New Idea magazine that she and the cricket legend had been planning to remarry and that she had been blindsided by his public kiss with Liz Hurley.
"New Idea 's story this week is a lot more made up rubbish and couldn't be any further from the truth," she said.
There is also speculation Nayer has already moved on from his marriage after the Indian textiles heir was spotted kissing a woman as the duo left a London restaurant.
An onlooker says: "They panicked at being snapped together. She dived into a taxi and he drove off."
In another dramatic turn Ms Angeleri's husband, Denis, who accused Warne on Twitter of being interested in only one thing, was ordered by the Federal Court to pay $4.8 million along with two other former directors of failed finance company Australian Motor Finance.
The order followed a long-running investigation into AMF's alleged use of hundreds of fake loan applications in a multi-million-dollar fraud.

It seems cricket legend Shane Warne is trying to keep his fledgling romance with Liz Hurley alive.
The 41-year-old Australian cricketer took to his Twitter account after he was accused of two-timing the actress by sending another Australian married woman more than 100 saucy texts.

"The journey of life is about riding the ups/downs," the Daily Mail quoted him as tweeting.
"We all are childish, immature at times. It's about how you bounce back when things are tough."
The star continued: "In life, everyone is happy to judge your actions then comment, sure everyone's entitled to their opinion.
"But their opinion is not always right," he added.
Warne and Hurley's relationship came to light just eight days ago, prompting the model to announce the end of her marriage to Arun Nayer.
